基于FAST望远镜的地外文明研究

地外文明搜寻(SETI)一直都是射电天文领域的重要研究课题。由于搜索目标的多样性,可能占据大量望远镜时间。传统上,射电天文学依赖观测站为观测者分配时间来获得望远镜的专用观测权限。这种方案的缺点是观测效率低,观测数据很难用于其他科学目标研究。为了获得尽可能多的观测时间,SETI采用共时观测(Commensal Survey),即不单独占用望远镜时间,在望远镜进行其他观测任务的同时进行SETI信号的搜寻。SETI项目已经开展超过四十年,并在美国阿雷西博(Arecibo),绿岸(Greenbank)等射电望远镜得到了很多窄带候选信号,五百米口径球面望远镜(FAST)的高灵敏度使得该项目不仅是对其他望远镜观测数据的有效验证,更增加了探测到微弱地外文明信号的可能性。本文主要介绍SETI研究在FAST开展的优势及可行性,并简单介绍未来计划。

Introduction of Searching for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence at FAST

Abstract:
Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) always been an important research topic in the field of radio astronomy. Due to the diversity of search targets, it will take a lot of telescope time. Traditionally, radio astronomy relies on observatories to allocate time for observers to gain exclusive access to telescopes. The disadvantage is low observation efficiency and the data are difficult to use for the other scientific purposes. In order to get as much telescope time as possible, we use the commensal observation program for SETI. It means that telescope searches for SETI signals while it performs other observations. SETI program has a long history over 40 years and gets a lot of narrowband candidate signals from Arecibo, Greenbank, Parks telescopes. The high sensitivity of FAST makes the project not only an effective validation of the program at other telescope observations but also a higher possibility of detecting faint extraterrestrial signals. The main idea of this paper is to introduce the advantage and possibility of SETI at FAST and future plans.
